Images of Cecil John Rhodes (5 July 1853 – 26 March 1902), imperialist, political manipulator, diamond magnate and Premier of the Cape Colony died aged 48. He arrived in South Africa in 1870 and invested his inheritance from his grandmother in the diamond diggings in Kimberley. He helped launch the De Beers Mining Company with his partner, C. D. Rudd.
In May 1890 he became Prime Minister of the Cape Colony and on 6 January 1896 – Cecil Rhodes was forced to resign for his involvement in the Jameson Raid
