Eastern Cape, South Africa
The Cory Library for Historical Research was founded in 1931 when Sir George Edward Cory, first professor of Chemistry at Rhodes University College, presented his extensive collection of books, pamphlets, manuscripts, maps, journals, newspapers and photographs, to the Rhodes University College Library.
In subsequent decades the collection has grown substantially, and the photographs displayed here are a sample of the Cory Library holdings, showing a focus on the historical personages, places, buildings and people of the Eastern Cape.
Over 1000 images from Cory Library are available on Africa Media Online, click here to view them all.
