President Jacob Zuma’s private homestead was the subject of a special report by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela called “Secure in Comfort” after it was discovered that R246 million of State money was spent on upgrades to it. The report recommended that the President should pay back some of the monies spent. In spite of two other reports being produced to look in to the matter – the joint standing committee on intelligence report and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report – as well as the President sending a letter to Parliament supposedly taking all three reports into account, the matter is still unresolved. As Madonsela was reported to say recently, it is now “for Parliament to evaluate, not for me.”
