Independence Square, also known as Black Star Square, is the site of Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations that happens on March 6 every year. The square was commissioned by President Kwame Nkrumah and completed in 1961 in preparation for the visit of Queen Elizabeth II.
Independence Square is also a popular destination for photo shoots and street photographers operate at the Square taking pictures of wedding parties and graduation attendees.
I also came across members of a church holding evangelistic placards. Christian advertising and public messages is a prominent feature of Accra.
