At 5pm on September 6, 2009 Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, met Sudan in an international World Cup qualifier at Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, Ghana. Shot in three days leading up to kick-off, this photo essay presents a behind-the-scenes look as the nation counted down to the important game. Preparations at the stadium, vendors selling football gear, players hanging out at their hotel, the tension slowly builds as bare frames begin to fill and as Ghana’s chance for a place in the 2010 World Cup draws nearer.
