Vanwyksdorp by Jonathan Katzenellenbogen
Vanwyksdorp is small village in the Klein Karoo in the Western Cape that has its origins in the Ostrich booms in the late 19th and early 20th century. The nearest sizeable towns are Ladismith and Oudtshoorn to the North and Riversdale to the South. Many of the older houses are in a unique Cape version of a late Victorian or Edwardian style. A number of the older properties in the village are derelict or in need of repair. Many of the properties have small apricot orchards and olive groves.
