An Orphanage in the tiny village of Sagam, Nyanza Province in Western Kenya run by the local Reverend Kenneth Wachianga.A young boy who may be orphaned soon after his father died of AIDS and his mother, Angela Otieno is now beginning to show symptoms of the disease herself. She is not allowed free access to ARV’s (antiretroviral drugs used to combat HIV & AIDS) as she refuses to be tested. Being HIV+ is highly stigmatised in Kenya, especially in rural communities. She would almost certainly be shunned by her village. Her two sons though are likely to be orphaned if she refuses medical treatment any longer. The Amani Children Development Programme makes regular visits into the local community to provide assistance for those children deemed to be on the verge of slipping through the community social safety net.
