IPMG0562 South Africa, Ngwelezana 2000: The children of AIDS activist Deli Hlongwa in Ngwelezana in the KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa, March 24, 2000 on the day before her funeral. Deli was a person living with full-blown AIDS who took part in the local `Funeral Campaign’ where people with HIV and Aids tell others in he community of their disease and invite them to come look at them in their open casket when they die, to disprove the widely-held notion that HIV does not kill. South Africa has a rapidly growing HIV crisis, with some 25% of ante-natal women testing positive.. Photograph by Greg Marinovich/South Photographs
