In 2009 a pod of false killer whales beached themselves mysteriously all along the coastline of the South Peninsula in Cape Town, South Africa. The local community rallied together en masse to save these whales, but eventually all their efforts were in vain, as the whales simply beached themselves again. The decision was taken by the local authorities to euthanize the whales and a team of police riflemen went along the beach shooting the whales in the head. JCB’s then scooped up the whale carcasses and dumped them away from the water line for collection by waste removal services at a later date.
