Dickson Mawenga runs a business in Mathare slum selling traditional medicine. He is originally from Nyanza province in Kenya. He consults with patients and prescribes indigenous herbs, bark, roots and even chemicals for various ailments ranging from STDs to typhoid, arthritis and sexual impotence. His business was started by his mother in 1985. Dickson joined his mother in the business in 2004, but as a scholar he had helped fellow students with ailments. Dickson says that his entire family has a gift of healing.
