Description: MAR1956 - Guts and Granite - As busy as Dickensí famous Madame Detarge, Lilian Ngoyi sews on machine all day at her factory and sews again at home to make the familyís clothes. Lillian Ngoyi, President of the ANC's Womens League (for the second time), springs to fame as the new tough type of women leader. She's ambitious and a remarkable orator! She knows too little about political theory! She has a brilliant intellect!. What kind of a woman is this? She almost rock men out of their pants when she speaks. For 21 years now they have been South Africa's Kings of Song. In November, 1955, at the Bantu Men's Social Centre, Johannesburg the Manhattan Brothers celebrated 21 years in Show Business. The Manhattan Brothers discovered a great voice in Miriam Makeba. She was just a small-town girl with a voice, which was about all she had. They saw possibilities in her and signed her for a year.
