Description: DM2005031811:SAED:SOCIAL:MUSIC:PERSONALITY:JAN1955 - Everybody's Dotty - Shoo-Gents, this Dorothy Masuka dame is burning hot stuff! She blew into Jo'burg from Rhodesia some two years ago. Now, Jo'burg is a tough joint. It takes a tornado to make Jo'burg go nuts. So two years ago Dorothy was just another canary from far. Jo'burg couldn't care less about her. Today is 1955. What! Jo'burg is raving mad. Raving mad! and you don't have to see her personally. Her Troubador records tell their own story."Into Yam". "Thandi" "Nontsokolo," "Ma", Last Sunday she was singing at a party. "I love my thing, 'cause my man's my thing. Call him drink, drank, drunk, he's still my thing. He jobs for me, that you wouldn't have thunk. So I love my thing, Ee...ma...yee...mo...wunk. Dorothy Masuku was the youngest recording star in South Africa. By 1957 she was already well established as a theatrical star. (Photograph by Bob Gosani ©BAHA)
