Description: This beautiful modern Catholic Church is in Lansdowne Road, Cape Town. The mural says: Beyond 2000. It also proclaims: Christ Yesterday Today Forever. Path: african.pictures / Shuter & Shooter Publishers / Izak de Vries
Description: This is the one of the biggest synagogues in Cape Town. It stands proudly next to the Jewish Museum and Holocaust Centre in the Gardens. It is called the "New Synagogue" because it was built to replace the oldest synagogue in the country. This is a magnificent building with dark, ornate pews, but brilliant stained glass windows and touches of white marble, red velvet and gold leaf. It actually seems to glow warmth. It is a great place for Jews to practice their religion.

Description: Like most small South African towns Fouriesburg was once a study in inequality. Across the valley in Mashaeng a teenager walks the dusty road home from school. The inequalities, however, are not nearly as marked now as poverty has become the condition of the whole town. Rural farming communities are under pressure in South Africa with the uncertainties in the agricultural sector compounded by rapid urbanisation.

Description: The New Apostolic Church, Gambo Street, Zanzibar. We were riding a hired motor bike to the North of the island and came across this church on the side of the road in the middle of "nowhere". It was a surprise in a predominantly Muslim island nation. It was Sunday morning so we stopped and attended the service for 15 minutes or so and then went on our way. The leader was not very welcoming but some of the congregants were. We ask for those things which, I believe, will facilitate co-operation between the Europeans and the non-Europeans; those things which minimise the occasions and remove the causes for bad relationship between the Europeans and ourselves..."
