Description: The Sarah Baartman is the first ever joint Southern African Development Community ( SADC ) offshore fisheries vessel to patrol the East Coast of Southern Africa.The vessel has been successful in conducting operations against poachers and illegal fishing and effective fisheries surveillance at sea.The ship built in Romania to the cost of 19 million US dollars and carries 18 crewand has a top speed in excess of 20 knots.The vessel will also be depolyed for duties off Marion and Prince Edward Islands.The ship docked at Durban's N-Shed harbour and attended by delegates and dignataries attending the 29th Session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Oragnisation ( UNESCO) World Heritage Committee Convention at Durban's International Convention Centre on 11 July 2005.www.rajeshjantilal.com
