Description: An Orphanage in the tiny village of Sagam, Nyanza Province in Western Kenya run by the local Reverend Kenneth Wachianga.Jonah (right) helping his blind twin brother David (left) to make the two-finger 'nimechill' salute. Both kids were born without any defects due to severe malnutrition, David now suffers from Category 1 Xerophltamia and is virtually blind without much chance of ever seeing again. Both kids were abandoned by their father after their mother died. An alcohoilic, their father was unable to cope and vented his frustrations and animosity particularly at the twins. It culminated with him trying to throw them in front of a moving car. The twins are the reason the orphanage was set up. When Reverend Kenneth Wachianga who founded the home discovered them in a run-down shack left to fend on their own and in such an advanced state of malnutrition, he felt that something had to be done.

Description: An Orphanage in the tiny village of Sagam, Nyanza Province in Western Kenya run by the local Reverend Kenneth Wachianga.Jemima Maruka (11). When she was found both her legs had been crudely amputated after gangrene had set in due to severe neglect. Her legs have now been re-amputated but funds are lacking to give her the prosthetic legs that she needs. She was referred to a special needs school, but as she is she is not mentally handicapped (she is in fact quite intelligent for her age group and fluent in 3 languages), the school would almost definitely be the wrong environment for her. Funds have since been found to put her in a mainstream barding school where she can thrive and put her firmly on the road to re-habilitation back into Kenyan society.

Description: An Orphanage in the tiny village of Sagam, Nyanza Province in Western Kenya run by the local Reverend Kenneth Wachianga.Johnny Murenga sitting with a social worker from the Amani Children's Development Programme, Winnie Otieno waiting for treatment at the local hospital.Apart from spinal bifide, Johnny suffers from hydrocephalis, a condition where fluid enters the brain causing it to swell. A shunt was surgically inserted in his head to control the fluid build-up, but this is a highly risky method of controlling his condition. The slightest infection will almost certainly be fatal. It is unlikely that Johnny will live past 20 years of age. On this occasion, Johnny is suffering from a combination of parasitic worms and malaria.
