It heard Nelson Mandela address the first-ever democratic government in South Africa. It heard Thabo Mbeki quote Ingrid Jonker. It is the parliament of South Africa.

Path: african.pictures / The Media Bank / Izak de Vries
Description: This fish supposedly represents a dolphin. Alas. It is the centrepiece for the swimming pool used by the governor and his family in the days of the Dutch East Indian Company. The Castle of the Cape of Good Hope has been restored during the nineties. During the restoration of the inner courtyard, the team discovered the foundations of the early 18th century bakery and this pool. Both have since been researched and rebuilt from plans and paintings. This fish too has been reconstructed from drawings. (Visitors to Cape Town should look out for the fish at the Parliament building. There the fish hold up the lights to entrance of parliament.)
