Description: 040109-EMI04.jpg SWAZILAND, Shiselweni. October 2003 Mbangwani Royal Residence, in Shiselweni District. Reed dance ceremony for King Mswati 3, thousands of bare-breasted young maidens danced in front of King Mswati taking part in a traditional ceremony now seen as an audition to join King Mswati's many wives. The 35-year-old king, sub-Saharan Africa's last absolute monarch, now has 9 wives and 2 fiancees a royal luxury that has drawn criticism as his small southern African kingdom battles poverty and a raging AIDS epidemic. Lined up in rows, the maidens danced before the king. Here a group of young girls await the start of the ceremony, an Aids awareness poster on the wall behind them.
