Description: February 7, 2015. The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve near Heidelberg has since been closed with just management left on site. The only source of water the reserve has is borehole water but it is difficult to distribute it to all the points of the property. Poor management and escalating costs have forced the nature reserve to shutdown due to a messed up multi-million rand water supply project. Provincial government first conceived the construction of the booster pump station for the Suikerbosrand near Heidelberg in 2004 but work on the site only began in 2007. The Suikerbosrand Northern Waterline project included the construction of an additional 80kl underground reservoir supplied by 14.46km of piping with a 110mm diameter that would connect the infrastructure to Rand Water line. Description: May 23, 2013. Leaders of the DA Youth, led by Mbali Ntuli debate with members of the Kleinfontein community. Members of the DA Youth made their way towards the gates of the racially exclusive Kleinfontein community outside Rayton, east of Pretoria, on Thursday, to protest against the ideals of the enclave which is an alleged "white only" Afrikaner cultural village in Kleinfontein, southeast of Pretoria. In Kleinfontein a statue of Hendrik Verwoerd stands at the gate. The village houses quite a large number of people in 350 homesteads. It's set on many hectares and is similar to the Northern Cape Afrikaner-only town of Orania. Residents here claim it was established to preserve Afrikaner culture, language and religion. Description: There are approximately 250,000 people living in the slum buildings of Doornfontein in inner-city Johannesburg. Many poor migrants without documentation, rights, or money, find themselves in these informal settlements with unhygienic and overcrowded living conditions. Little sanitation or waste management, clean water, electricity and access to healthcare. Doctors Without Borders, Medecins Sans Frontires (MSF) is helping residents by providing primary healthcare, referrals to the public sector clinics, and providing materials and staffing for cleaning the buildings.
