Description: DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA: A Hindu devotee gets his body pierced before he joined many devotees who pulled their respective chariots decked with flowers, milk, lime, fruits, hooks, hindu deities, camphor, lamp and spikes sewed to his body during the annual Hindu Thaipusam Kavady festival on 4 February 2007 at the Chatsworth Magazine Barracks Shree Vishnu Hindu temple in Chatsworth township some 40 kilometres north of Durban.The festival is a purification ritual offering prayers, penance, observing a strict month long vegetarian diet and in honour of Hindu God , Muruga.
