Title:Twenty TenDescription:Liberia/Sierra Leone. August 18th 2010. Sierra Leonean fans at the Jendemah border post on their way to watch a soccer friendly encounter between Bo-Young Stars (Liberia) and Gohn United (S/Leone) at a local pitch in Bo, Grand Cape Moubt County, Liberia. Cross Border Soccer is a vital instrument through which peace and security is being maintained within the borders of Liberia and Sierra Leone. In the early 1980's the two countries had strained relationship during a qualifier match in Freetown in which several Liberian players and officials were brutally attacked at the then Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown. The Government of Liberia ordered the closure of the Mano River Union Border post. In mid 1980's some descendent forces invaded Liberia in attempt to over throw the government of the late president, Samuel Kanyon Doe. And in the 1990's, there has been Cross Border attacks by rebels of the Revolutionary Front (RUF) of Sierra Leone, and United Liberation Movement for Reconciliation and Democracy of Liberia(ULIMO) in which both governments accused each other of supporting rebels to destabilize their nations. Now against this background, at the border towns of Bo-Waterside and Jendemah, the people of both towns are regularly involve in this vital instrument to further strengthen the peace and stability of Liberia and Sierra Leone......”CROSS BORDER SOCCER”.
