Title:
Mural, township tavern
Description:
In the mid-1990s ‘taverns’ had not only become legitimate, but also sophisticated establishments, catering for the needs of a growing black township middle-class. Here artist Jackson Nkumanda, commissioned by a liquor distributor, has painted a ‘yuppie’ scene with meticulous detail on the outside wall of a well-known tavern off Washington Street, Langa. An artist with a highly distinguishable style, Jackson’s work is easily recognised.
