Mr Chitepo is a barrister-at-law and is the first African advocate to appear in a Rhodesian Supreme Court. His wife became the first South African woman to qualify as a probation officer in England. She also became the first African Woman in South Africa to be appointed secretary of the YWCA in charge of non-white activities. Ten years of courtship ended in the wedding of Herbert and Victoria Chitepo, a Zulu beauty from South Africa.
