Michael Scott (centre), founding member of the Africa Bureau, a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing accurate reports on Britain’s Colonies to its citizens, addresses the United Nations Seminar on Apartheid, Racial Discrimination and Colonialism in Southern Africa. The seminar took place in Kitwe, Zambia from 25 July - 4 August 1967. Scott spent a great deal of his life fighting racial segregation and later apartheid in South Africa. This photograph forms part of a series of captioned photographic records titled “The United Nations and Apartheid”, that was presented to Nelson Mandela, President of the Republic of South Africa, by United Nations Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali in October 1994.
