RAYMOND MHLABA
Raymond Mhlaba is a leader of our people who has fearlessly fought against oppression all his life. He was born in Fort Beaufort in 1920. In his youth, he became involved in student activities, trade unionism and later joined the Communist Party. In 1944 he joined the ANC. He was banned, harrassed and imprisoned for being involved in the struggle. He was a founder member of Umkhonto We Sizwe. In 1963, he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. The enemy has failed to break his spirit after 20 years of imprisonment.
His self-sacrifice, devotion and dedication to the struggle for our people's freedom is an inspiration to all.
