Great Day For Elmina – Paramount Chief with dagger. This year annual celebrations were blessed with presence of Paramount Chief Nana Condua IV, who was dressed in symbolic garb, clutching decorated dagger. This has always been a great annual ceremony for the Elminians ever since the legendary priestess Etsi Ekua returned from the dead to teach the tribe how to propitiate the river god, Benya. Whether you believe in it or not it provides the people with a holiday and much merrymaking. Once a year the Elminian men, women and children gather in their thousands on the banks of the River Benya in their best clothes to watch the chief priest propitiate the river god of the State, Benya.
