Title: Drum Magazine social history photographs, Ghana edition 442 Description: Oscarmore. Oscar enjoys the praise – "music must be appreciated" – He's the king of Ghana's High Life – The young vocalist did not have a particularly striking voice. Nor was he exceptionally handsome. But, though he lacked these star qualities, each time he took the microphone at the Tip-Toe Night Club in Accra, the crowd of dancers roared out: "More! More!... Oscar More! Oscar More! ...." Yet strangely, Oscarmore's early life had little music in it. He was Drum Major at the Old Juaben Methodist Senior School. And he was also a solo singer for the Dramatic Choir, whose music master, Mr Kwesi Baiden, is one of the best composers of choral music in the country today. But it was when he was studying draughtsmanship at Koforidua that he began to take music seriously.
