Women banned: Aborigines of Ibadan, squatting and telling stories still talk with nostalgia of the Egungun masquerade, a ceremony which was forbidden to women. This ceremony was held every three years from the time Ibadan town was founded until about ten years ago. It was said that any woman who stepped out of doors during the celebration would become barren and might even die before the ceremony.
