The workers were not permitted to make for their destination. Baton-happy policemen charged them, hitting indiscriminately. It was tense, ugly there while it lasted. Men fell bleeding and groaning to ground. More defiant the rioters, tougher police became. Later, the rioters dispersed. In Lagos railwaymen protested because certain high ranking job was not given to a Nigerian. They tried to get a note to the white boss whom they wanted to resign.
