Title: Drum Magazine social history photographs, Nigeria edition 647 Description: The tragi-comic make-believe palace of a ruler in exile. The man, his "palace," in his make-believe palace in Egerton Street, Lagos, the exiled Yoruba Oba daily holds court. Although it is not quite like back home, the Oba carries himself with dignity. His 200 odd wives visit him in rotation. He still has a number of valets, flunkeys, footmen and court officials. The powerful, greying Yoruba Oba, Alhadji Adeniran, was booted out of his Royal Stool at the age of 84, by the Western Regional Government. A Lagos merchant gave him sanctuary at his business headquarters. But the Oba soon turned the building into a "palace."
