Title: Drum Magazine social history photographs, South Africa edition 2369 Description: Sobukwe: Man With Six Vital Questions To Answer. Robert Sobukwe in Pretoria Central Prison. This picture, taken a few months ago with the permission of the Director of Prisons, was allowed for publication in the South African press as evidence that Sobukwe was not being ill-treated in jail, as had been alleged by Leballo. In a jail interview, Sobukwe emphatically denied Leballo's allegations, stating he was not ill-treated at all. After three years in jail, does he now face internment? Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe is due to be released from jail on May 5, only to face a bleak future. He was imprisoned for three years in 1960 for leading the Pan Africanist anti-pass campaign and will have served his sentence in full, without a single day's remission. However, it is highly unlikely that he will leave jail a free man.
