The Ian Bruce Huntley Jazz Collection includes 370 images of which 120 were published in his book: “Keeping Time”. Limited to 500 copies, the book covers the 1964-1974 period, unveiling a lesser-known chapter of South African music history. Huntley’s archive sheds light on an ‘underground’ jazz scene that defied apartheid, capturing accomplished musicians who pushed creative boundaries. With many artists gone and others undocumented, the archive, now accessible, contributes significantly to preserving the memory and untold stories of South African jazz.
