Desmond Tutu, a South African Anglican bishop, rose to prominence fighting apartheid. Ordained in 1960, he became the first Black Archbishop of Cape Town. His powerful sermons and activism earned him the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize. Later, as head of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he helped begin the healing process of a divided nation.
