Path: african.pictures / Twenty Ten / Davina Jogi
Description: A house in Johannesburg's northern suburbs displays its membership to NYPD private security. In 2007, South Africans spent about R46 billion on private security in a seemily futile attempt to protect themselves from crime. This year, the majority of crime figures have increased but both FIFA and the SAPS are satisfied that as long as people attending the World Cup stay within "certain boundaries", they will be safe. South Africa's notoriously high crime rates have caused international concern over fan safety during the upcoming 2010 World Cup, despite the fact that both FIFA and the South African police have given assurances that it will not be an issue.
