Description: This approximately 2 000 hectare dam is situated less than an hour from Johannesburg. Often mist rises from the dam on winters mornings. It is exceptionally well-used by fishermen, campers, sailers, birdwatchers and holiday-makers in general. It is fed by many streams and rivers where it nestles at the foot of the Magaliesberg. Origonally a weekend or holday destination, it has now become very fashionable for wealthy Johannesburgers to build permanent residence and to commute between the city and this beautiful setting. Hundreds of new houses as well as estates and golf estates have sprung up in the last few years. As well as numerous camping grounds the area boasts many restaurants, shops, curio shops, art galleries and a zoo and aquarium.
