Description: A member of the Shembe faith (Nazareth Baptist Church), a religious hybrid of Christianity and African traditions dries his shirt after washing it in the river during the annual pilgrimage near Inanda, north of Durban, January 11, 2007. Shembe is the fourth successor to Isaiah Shembe, a Zulu healer who formed the church a century ago to infuse African tribalism into Christianity brought over by Western missionaries. The pilgrims will spend two weeks on the mountain praying and dancing. © Rogan Ward 2007
