Description: The Spence family home is on the cliff tops overlooking the harbour entrance, Bay of Maputo. During the civil war the Spence family was forced out of the home by the new government without recompense. It then became a holiday home for President Samora Michel and since his death at the hands of the South African Defense Force, has become a national monument in Mozambique. It is now a base for an NGO caring for street children. The Spence family have made an attempt to get the home back but have been in two minds as to what to do with it, since it is a base for serving the poor. They have not as yet been successful as the red tape is great. The colonial history of Africa is full of stories of unfair gain and loss
