Title: Turret on a synagogue in Port Elizabeth II
    Image Number: APN111679
    Media Id: 87_257
Path: african.pictures / The Media Bank / Izak de Vries
Description: This turret belongs to a synagogue in South End, Port Elizabeth, which was built in 1894. Just a few hundred metres to the right is a green mosque with equally interesting and ornate architecture. I am always in awe when I see how people are willing to produce only their best for their religion.

Description: These interesting dolphin-like creatures hold up the lights to the entrance of the Parliament Building. It is apt, I guess, as I think all politicians are a bit fishy. The architect must have had a sense of humour!

    Title: Tin Technology
    Image Number: APN111730
    Media Id: 87_284
Path: african.pictures / The Media Bank / Izak de Vries
Description: Look at the ingenuity with which these shacks have been built. The human spirit and mind is just great. Even in the face of poverty, caused by apartheid and unequal opportunities, these guys have used wood, plastic and old tins to create these interesting bits of technology. These shacks have developed because of years of influx control under apartheid. In the homelands, or Bantustans, there were not enough jobs and not enough land. People had to move to the city. Today township dwellers are a powerful lobby group and our government is providing electricity and other services.

Description: Hoerikwago in frame: The Stadium's concrete columns holding up the first sections of the Compression Ring. It is the Compression Ring that will ultimately be the anchor point for the Stadium's roof. I was walking around in the Stadium one late afternoon seeking out an interesting section of the columns and the right light condition when the form and light of this moment caught my eye. The new majestic concrete columns and Compression Ring of the Stadium framing one of the wonders of our world, the historic Horikwago - Table Mountain makes an interesting image.
