    Title: ELECTIONS SOUTH AFRICA
Path: african.pictures / Independent Photographers / Eric Miller
Description: 040414-EMI06.jpg-CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA Delft, sporting HIV/Aids T-shirt, supporters of the former ruling National Party, now known as New National Party outside a voting station in the working class area. The New National Party has ruled the Western Cape Province in coalition with the ANC over the last few years. Today is South Africas third democratic election marking 10 years of democracy. The three major issues of this election are whether the ruling ANC takes more than 2/3 of the national vote, and who will govern in Kwazulu Natal and Western Cape, the only two provinces not under majority ANC control. In the Western Cape the election result hinges on which way so called 'coloured' voters vote. Path: african.pictures / Independent Photographers / Eric Miller
Description: 040109-EMI04.jpg SWAZILAND, Shiselweni. October 2003 Mbangwani Royal Residence, in Shiselweni District. Reed dance ceremony for King Mswati 3, thousands of bare-breasted young maidens danced in front of King Mswati taking part in a traditional ceremony now seen as an audition to join King Mswati's many wives. The 35-year-old king, sub-Saharan Africa's last absolute monarch, now has 9 wives and 2 fiancees a royal luxury that has drawn criticism as his small southern African kingdom battles poverty and a raging AIDS epidemic. Lined up in rows, the maidens danced before the king. Here a group of young girls await the start of the ceremony, an Aids awareness poster on the wall behind them. Description: 040109-EMI01.jpg SWAZILAND, MANZINI. October 2003 A grade 10 schoolgirl undergoes a medical check at a clinic set up at a local youth centre. The centre provides HIV/Aids testing, health and counselling services to school children. There are also facilities at the centre for scholars to play games, dance, and socialise with each other in a 'safe' environment. Swaziland experiences one of the highest HIV infection rates in Southern Africa, many schoolgirls are vulnerable as a result of both poverty, traditional practices such as polygamy.
