Title: Newfrontiers southern Africa days of prayer and fasting
Path: african.pictures / Independent Photographers / David Larsen
Description: Scott Marques businessman and leader of Newfrontiers in Zimbabwe is prayed for by Steve van Rhyn, leader of Jubilee Community Church in Cape Town, and Mbonisi Malaba during the days of prayer and fasting held in Pietermaritzburg in October 2005, nine months after Simon Pettit, leader of Newfrontiers Africa had died of a heart attack. Marques was officially appointed to lead the Zimbabwe region at the gathering. Dave Holden took over the leadership of the church planting movement in southern Africa with the mandate of appointing local leaders to take over spheres of responsibility. Newfrontiers is a church planting movement which emerged in the South of England in the 1960s and has spread to many nations around the world. Under Simon Pettit this charismatic reformed church movement took on a thoroughly multi-cultural face in Africa highly relevant to the new South Africa recovering from generations of racial segregation

Southern Rhodesias beat-the ban bid started after the government has outlawed all Sunday political meetings. Soon there was a series of colourful social events including the flamboyant promotions of the Zimbabwe Traditional and Cultural Club and gathering of the Zimbabwe Aged and Destitute Peoples Association. At one of the associations meetings, the guest speaker was ex-ZAPU leader Mr Joshua Nkomo. (Photograph by Drum Photographer BAHA)

Description: After a turnout of 7,400 men in 2007, the organisers of the Mighty Men Conference (MMC) 2008 had expected 20,000 men to decend on Angus Buchan's Shalom Farm near Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. In preparation the largest tent in the world was erected. Instead over 60,000 men turned up from all over South Africa for the few days of the evangelistic conference at which Zambian-born farmer Angus Buchan preached with great passion moving many men to respond by committing themselves to follow Jesus Christ. Having begun with just 240 men in 2004, the 2008 conference marked a dramatic growth which saw hundreds of thousands of men gathering in the final two years it was run - 2009 and 2010. Here men respond in prayer following on from preaching by Angus Buchan.
