Description: DM2008061308:EAED:POLITICS:PERSONALITIES:JUN 1970 - Assassination Bid That Failed - The night of the shooting: President is seen leaving Lugogo Stadium after having his controversial Common Man's Chapter adopted by the UPC. Minutes after this photograph was taken, Obote was shot. It would have been the most audacious assassination in modern Africa - an unknown taxi-driver killing President Milton Obote while he was surrounded by troops and security guards. But it failed by the narrowest of margins, because a semi-automatic Czech pistol jammed after the first shot, and because a Chinese-made hand grenade failed to explode. Description: DM2008061309:EAED:POLITICS:PERSONALITIES:JUN 1970 - Assassination Bid That Failed - Obote speaks on his vision of a self-reliant socialist Uganda on the fateful night. President Obote suffered minor face wounds when the first bullet ripped through his cheeks, damaging some of his teeth and pat of his tongue. But, to Uganda's great good fortune, the damage was slight, and he was soon back at his duties. (Photograph by Drum Photographer BAHA)

Both Emmanuel and Joe came from the Democratic Republic of Congo after fleeing political violence in Kinshasa with the hope that they could make it as professional soccer players in South Africa. Because of South African laws that prohibit foreign nationals from playing in local clubs unless they have work permits, they and many other talented young men from all over Africa can't play soccer and now work as security guards.

There is very little designated parking at the stadium, which will be used as a training venue during 2010, so innovative car guards are able to make money creating informal parking lots and guarding cars. South Africa's notoriously high crime rates have caused international concern over fan safety during the upcoming 2010 World Cup, despite the fact that both FIFA and the South African police have given assurances that it will not be an issue.
